FRIENDS OF CEDAR RAPIDS HISTORIC PRESERVATION (FCRHP)

is a local non-profit historic preservation organization dedicated to preserving Cedar Rapid’s historic and cultural heritage.  It was established in 2016 and is supported by donations and concerned citizens.  In keeping with its original mission, the organization works in partnership with national, state and local preservation organizations and individuals in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

•  EDUCATES - We develop programming and resources that are accessible to the wide variety of property owners that live, have invested, or have an interest in historical homes, buildings, and neighborhoods in Cedar Rapids’ historical districts.  We also partner with Cedar Rapids Historic Preservation Commission, (HPC) in providing education classes.  We are continually looking for ways to bring educational opportunities, such as how to videos, hands-on workshops, and guest speakers to assist those having a  desire to learn the proper techniques in historical preservation.

 

• FUNDS / GRANTS - Funds in the way of grants or zero interest loans will be available for those individuals living in a historical district. This money will assist those who are in need of financial assistance in their efforts to follow the federal guidelines that Cedar Rapids adopted in order to maintain historical properties.  The application process of the FRIENDS OF CEDAR RAPIDS HISTORICAL PRESERVATION mirrors the application process that the city’s HPC uses for their financial assistance.  This expedites the qualification process for the applicant.

 

•  PARTNER - Partnerships have been forged with the Cedar Rapids development, real estate, and business community, in an effort to further the impact of future of preservation in Cedar Rapids.  By forming this non-profit and working closely with other preservation groups and with the city of Cedar Rapids, we found benefit in a preservation community that speaks with one strong voice.
