Friends of Cedar Rapids Historic Preservation Present ~

The 2019 Preservation Showcase

· Guests met with members of both Friends of Cedar Rapids Historic Preservation and the Historic Preservation Commission in the beautiful Ausadie courtyard to

learn about both organizations, find out about up-coming educational workshops and learn about becoming a local landmark.  They viewed story boards providing updates on “Progress in Preservation” and the importance of maintaining architectural ornamentation.  Members of Friends of Cedar Rapids Historic Preservation were on hand to answer questions on these subjects.

· Guests received free guided tours of the historic Ausadie Building, and they also attended the free bus tour “The Cedar Rapids Historic Progress Tour” with tour guide and historian Mark Stoffer Hunter.  The guests learned all about the great strides that have been made by individuals and organizations in historic preservation throughout the city in the past ten years since the Flood of 2008.

· To cap off afternoon the progressive event moved to the Masonic Library for the preservation award ceremony.  Ten awards were given to individuals and organizations for their outstanding efforts in preserving our City’s architectural history or for their stewardship in preservation.
